Tina Turner, who appeared as The Acid Queen in The Who’s “Tommy” and who also scorched the screen in The Rolling Stones’ documentary “Gimme Shelter”, celebrates her birthday today. 

20 years ago this past summer the biopic “What’s Love Got to Do with It” was released, loosely based on Turner’s tumultuous life. Both Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne earned Oscar nominations in 1994 for their roles as Tina Turner and Ike Turner, respectively. The screenplay was adapted from the autobiography “I, Tina” co-written by Ms. Turner and Kurt Loder.
